It's been a long road to this moment. First announced back in September 2021, Marvel's Wolverine went unusually quiet, and for very painful reasons. In December 2023, Insomniac Games was hit by a devastating ransomware attack that saw development assets, gameplay footage, story details, and internal files flood the internet. Some people even managed to get their hands on playable builds of the game. It was a genuinely horrible situation for the studio, and the industry rallied around them.
Against that backdrop, seeing a concrete release date is a proper relief. Perhaps, give Insomniac Games some love by wishlisting Marvel's Wolverine here.
Marvel's Wolverine Release Date
The September 15 date is notable for reasons beyond just ending the wait. It firmly plants Wolverine's flag two months ahead of Grand Theft Auto 6's November release - and that's almost certainly deliberate. No sane publisher wants their flagship title buried under the cultural avalanche that GTA 6 is going to cause. By landing in September, Sony Interactive Entertainment gives Wolverine room to breathe, sell, and dominate the conversation before Rockstar Games renders everything else temporarily irrelevant.
What to expect from Marvel's Wolverine
Insomniac has been clear that this isn't Spider-Man with claws. Wolverine is darker, bloodier, and built around Logan's berserker combat style - fast, brutal, and deeply personal. Villains confirmed so far include Omega Red and Mystique, with hints at appearances from Daredevil and Jean Grey.
We have not seen much of the game so far, but with the release date now firmly confirmed, expect plenty of new footage - trailers, screenshots - and information in the coming months. Five years in the making, one catastrophic leak, and now a date. September 15 can't come soon enough. Wolverine is officially back.
