Marvel’s Wolverine was given the spotlight at this week’s State of Play. Insomniac Games has now shared their most substantial look at their upcoming action-adventure game yet.
In addition to an extensive gameplay trailer, the developer has revealed new details on Wolverine’s story, combat mechanics, characters, accessibility options, and launch editions. Marvel’ Wolverine is launching September 15, 2026 exclusively for PlayStation 5.
Story and Characters
Marvel’s Wolverine is set in a grittier world with a focus on visceral action. As fans would expect from Logan, the gameplay trailer shows him being extremely violent against his enemies. Wolverine will battle cybernetic-enhanced mercenaries called the Reavers. Reavers are being sent after mutants and Wolverine specifically to take them down.
It seems Logan will be solving the mystery behind the disappearance of several mutants and how it all connects to Bolivar Trask, who is crafting a sinister plan to take mutantkind down.
One character who is introduced in the gameplay trailer is Jean Grey. Jean Grey plays an integral role in Wolverine’s story and viewers are able to see snippets of her powerful telekinetic abilities. During combat sequences Wolverine and Jean work together to take down enemies.
Combat
Combat features both quick-time action and technique-based abilities. Wolverine can execute different Techniques like Tornado Spin and Bull Rush. Attacks and parries allow Wolverine to fill up his Rage meter. Building up enough Rage will allow players to do stronger attacks and activate Wolverine’s Healing Factor which slowly heals him during combat.
Players can eventually reach maximum Rage which grants Wolverine enhanced powers and a black and white combat view reminiscent of Marvel Comics Black, White, and Blood series.Combat won’t be the only things players can expect from Marvel’s Wolverine. The gameplay trailer revealed some exciting set pieces.
Players will be able to ride a motorcycle on the highway and weave in-between cars while fighting off Reavers and heavily armored Reaver Brutes.
