Evil Geniuses will be closing after over 25 years of competing. They have officially stated that they will be ceasing competition and shutting down their daily operations on November 2nd 2026.
With sponsorships becoming harder to come by and costs to compete getting higher and higher, this is what led Evil Geniuses to make this decision. After recently being passed over for a Valorant Americas partnership in 2027.
Many fans will remember Evil Geniuses competing in multiple titles throughout their career.
Why is Evil Geniuses Shutting Down?
According to DeAppolonio, Evil Geniuses has been working to turn their business around over the past few years. By bettering their operations and reputation. Producing more content and gaining more viewership. Adding more creators to their organization and competing in more games.
While these changes may have improved the organization they still could not gain enough sponsorship opportunities. To continue competing at the price they would have to pay.
Therefore decided it was not sustainable to continue operating as a business. Though Evil Geniuses did gain improvements in many aspects of their business it wasn't enough to better their situation.
Not only was Evil Geniuses recently passed over for a VCT Americas partnership. They will be ceasing to operate as a partnered team in 2027.
This is very notable considering Evil Geniuses took home VALORANT Champions in 2023. Only 3 years after they will be shutting down.
Though they may have been passed over for this partnership it shouldn't be looked at as the only reason they are shutting down. Sponsorships and the price to compete are what lead DeAppolonio to this conclusion.
What About Evil Geniuses Players?
All players will be able to talk to other organizations about their futures. Once the 2026 season ends on November 2nd Evil Geniuses VALORANT players will be free agents.
They hope to help all of there players and staff find new homes. DeAppolonio hopes that other employers will reach out to Evil Geniuses talent. And he stated he would be willing to send them referrals.
Since their beginning in 1999 Evil Geniuses has had many accomplishments. Taking home The International in 2015 for Dota 2. Winning the Call of Duty championship in 2018. And taking home VALORANT champions in 2023.
