Developer Hexworks have revealed some interesting details about Lords of the Fallen's challenging New Game Plus mechanic.

Lords of the Fallen will launch with a New Game+ option that will feature a challenging and very interesting gameplay mechanic.

In the latest Reddit AMA, the Hexworks team shared bits of information about the New Game Plus and how exactly it will change the gameplay loop of the game.

Essentially, instead of fixed Vestiges (checkpoints like Bonfires in Dark Souls) the game will only give you access to the Seeds Vestiges, which come at a significant resource cost. Basically, you'll need to use consumables to craft Seeds Vestiges at specific places.

"Our NG+ introduces a fully new paradigm for players progression and exploration: instead of fixed Vestiges (where you can rest and upgrade), you will only have access to the Seeds Vestiges, that use consumables to be crafted," Hexworks explained in the Reddit post.

So in layman's terms, this means that you'll have to craft Vestiges for a high price at places where you think you need them the most instead of having fixed Vestiges all over the world where you can rest and upgrade without spending a dime on the actual Vestige.

I have played a fair bit of souls-like titles over the years and I have to say that I don't recall such a mechanic in any of these titles. It's safe to say that New Game Plus will be a proper challenge even for the hardcore souls-like players.

On the other hand, it's also great that Hexworks have an easier Vestiges design in the first playthrough so those who are not that experienced with these challenging games can enjoy this dark fantasy title.

Lords of the Fallen is officially launching on Friday, October 13, 2023, for PC , PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S
