Riot Games is overhauling True Damage mechanics in League of Legends with Patch 25.S1.3, set to release on February 5th, 2025.

Riot Games is overhauling how True Damage functions in League of Legends, thanks to the upcoming Patch 25.S1.3, which is set to release on February 5th, 2025.

Patch 25.S1.2 came out and brought several changes, from the fact that Feats of Strength requires a team to get the first three kills and no longer just First Blood, some changes were done to Atakhan's Voracious form for it to pop out more often, as well as a fix in the items of ADC champions for armor penetration.

However, the meta has extremely favored tank champions and items since the start of the 2025 season. Items like Unending Despair and Heartsteel are so powerful that even champions that aren't really supposed to be tanks, such as Jayce, are running the items. Riot's going to nerf them by buffing True Damage mechanics in the coming patch.

What's changing about True Damage?

Beginning with Patch 25.S1.3, True Damage will interact with damage amplification effects, adding a new layer of depth to champions with true damage abilities.

This means players will have more reliable ways to deal with and take down tanks and their item builds.

Here is a breakdown of the changes:

True damage from spells and abilities with true damage scaler, such as Garen ultimate, Fiora ultimate or Gwen Q will now trigger on-hit affects from items like Spear of Shojin, Horizon focus, Liandry's torture and Riftmaker.

Damage amplification from runes such as Coup de Grace, Last Stand, Cut Down, and Press the Attack will also increase True Damage.

But True Damage will not be affected by the effects of a debuff. Lastly, True Damage-to come from either a pet or used as an Smite - does not gain the benefits of amplification.

These changes are targeted to balance the game by making the True Damage champions more efficient against tanks - a problematic class this season.

Scaling True Damage into certain items and runes, Riot provides players with extended tools to deal with overly durable opponents. Stay tuned for Patch 25.S1.3, and be sure to give these changes a go when they hit live!
