The newest champion that entered League of Legends' roster is Mel Medarda, who had caused a big stir in the air since her release date.

With the most versatile set of abilities, having unique mechanics with her kit, Mel gained players' hearts, but frustrations piled up while playing against her overpowering force. Riot Games did already deploy a hotfix for her power in order to weaken her a little, and this is pretty well debated within the community about being enough.

As soon as she appeared, Mel was immediately an A-tier League of Legends champion; in the mid lane, for example, her win rate in this patch currently sits at an impressive 51%, coupled with a 32% ban rate.

She even appears very strong for other positions at nearly 50% win rates, which speaks volumes to just how powerful the champion is for those still actively learning to exploit her kit to its fullest extent.

Riot had initially celebrated Mel's strong start - she finally managed to fit all of her multiple roles well and provided enjoyable gameplay-but on the other hand, they also knew it was too strong in the current state, given how much damage she dealt and gold she produced.

The developers moved in with a hotfix intended to balance her out while preserving her versatility.

Changes were directed toward a few aspects of her kit. Her passive, Overwhelm, saw a flat damage reduction and a significant AP scaling reduction; enemies caught in her combos are less punished.

The base damage to her Q, Missile Barrage, was slightly reduced to soften her poke potential. The most significant change came to her ultimate, Final Execution, in the form of a damage scaling and overall burst potential reduction.

These changes are aimed at making her burst damage more manageable while still keeping her engaging to play.

Even with these nerfs, some players feel it hasn't gone far enough and that Mel can easily take over matches. Others feel Riot has struck the right balance and she is able to remain viable without being oppressive.

The community is still in the adaptation phase, while Riot will be watching her performance closely, prepared to make further changes as needed.

For now, Mel remains a strong, versatile champion, but the debate about her balance is far from over. Time will have to tell if Riot's adjustments cut it or if more needs to change.
