Iron Banner is one of the few Destiny 2 activities where Power was an entry barrier for a PvP experience but that will no longer be the case.
Bungie decided to cut the Power advantages from Iron Banner with the latest iteration of the event, allowing pretty much everyone to hop in, get limited fun and earn some pinnacles.
The reason for making the activity more accessible is probably because too many Destiny 2 players found IB to have one too many hurdles. First, the activity is a modified Control where one team's successful captures can quickly snowball the match and provoke Mercy triggers, causing Saladin's telephone bill to go through the roof because he keeps calling it.
On top of that, the activity used to have to Power advantages, meaning you could be at a disadvantage just because someone has a higher gear score and being on the receiving end of that is never fun.
With one of these issues cut out, those pinnacles should look more inviting than ever, allowing players to farm more efficiently. On the other hand, the rate at which Iron Banner appears will be reduced.
Starting in Season 17, Iron Banner will happen only twice a season. In the case of the next season, it means Saladin will visit on the second and eighth weeks of the season.
More precisely, Iron Banner will run for seven days on two occasions, starting on:
- May 31, 2022
- July 12, 2022
