Overwatch’s 10th Anniversary event begins May 12 with free loot boxes, exclusive cosmetics, community challenges, and more rewards.

This month marks Overwatch’s official 10-year anniversary. Blizzard Entertainment is celebrating the milestone by dropping a giant in-game event that’s stuffed to the brim with rewards, cosmetics, and community activities.

Slated to run from May 12 through June 1, the Overwatch Anniversary 2026 event will offer exclusive cosmetics, loot boxes, player titles, and themed rewards Blizzard describes as being pulled right out of the game’s launch era.

The anniversary arrives as Overwatch is riding a massive resurgence following its blockbuster 2026 revamp, which saw the game ditch the “2” from its title and receive massive updates to gameplay, story, and its roster of heroes earlier this year.

Anniversary Rewards and Community Challenges

Blizzard says players will have the opportunity to earn or unlock thousands of cosmetics throughout the event. Confirmed unlocks so far include 21 launch hero skins, 15 Anniversary Loot Boxes, 33 developer and community-designed 2D cosmetics like banners, and five exclusive weapon charms.

Blizzard has yet to outline every cosmetic reward players will have access to during the event. However, promotional images already feature heroes like Mercy, Tracer, and Winston so it’s almost guaranteed we’ll see Overwatch’s original cast leading the charge for the game’s anniversary. Players will also be able to participate in community-wide challenges each week.

By completing these challenges players will unlock Legendary Loot Boxes. Blizzard says “much more” will be revealed prior to the game’s launch, but we can probably expect trailers and a breakdown of rewards.

Players can earn up to nine free Loot Boxes by participating in the currently-running Junkrat’s Loot Hunt event, which rewards players with double Battle Pass XP until May 12.

Overwatch originally released on May 24, 2016. Despite years of major upheavals, sequels, and heroes getting the ol’ rework treatment, Blizzard’s hero shooter has maintained a grip on being one of the biggest multiplayer games in the genre.
