Sony's Horizon franchise simply can't catch a break. The first game, Horizon Zero Dawn, was overshadowed by Nintendo's excellent action-adventure Zelda Breath of the Wild, while the sequel Forbidden West suffered a similar fate when Elden Ring took all the spotlight.
As we near the official release of Horizon Forbidden West on PC, it seems that this series will once again fail to generate hype and attract players, mainly due to Dragon's Dogma 2, which releases just a day after Forbidden West arrives on PC.
On Steam, Horizon Forbidden West failed to crack the Top 50 on Steam's weekly best sellers list, ranking in 58th place, behind some big upcoming titles but also already released games that are currently on sale.
It's likely that the game will rank higher after the launch as many players are probably still waiting to see if the performance of the game is acceptable and whether there are any bugs that can ruin the experience.
When the first game launched on PC, it suffered from various issues including crashing, stuttering and other serious performance issues, that have been somewhat fixed since then.
These potential launch issues and the release of the already mentioned Dragon's Dogma 2, which is one of the most anticipated games of 2024, are the two main reasons why Horizon Forbidden West is not selling well on PC at the moment.
Additionally, some players were disappointed with the lack of new features such as ray-tracing that would make this port more appealing.
Horizon Forbidden West PC version boasts a set of PC-exclusive stuff like Nvidia DLSS, unlocked frame rate and more but that's pretty standard stuff for modern PC ports and it's a shame that the game is not launching with more exciting features.
