Despite the lack of official confirmation from Sony, anticipation and discussions surrounding the potential release of the PS5 Pro continue to circulate among fans and the gaming community, even after the recent update for the PlayStation 5 system.
Two reliable insiders have backed up recently leaked specifications for the rumored PlayStation 5 Pro console, adding credence to the ongoing rumors. While Sony has not officially confirmed the existence of a PS5 Pro, rumours have persisted for some time, drawing comparisons to the PS4 Pro.
Persistent rumours and leaks from reputable sources suggest that the PS5 Pro is not only real but also scheduled for release later this year. Speculation indicates that Sony aims to launch the PS5 Pro in conjunction with the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6, expected in 2025.
Given that GTA 6 is rumoured to skip the PC release, things can work out in Sony's favour. If the rumours are true, then it can potentially increase demand for the PS5 Pro as PC players would be forced to shift.
What do the recent leaks reveal?
This information is said to come from leaked documentation that was originally shared on a developer portal. According to it, PS5 Pro will:
"Rendering 45% faster than PS5, 2-3x Ray-tracing, 33.5 Teraflops, PSSR upscaling/antialiasing solution, custom machine learning architecture, and an AI Accelerator supporting 300 TOPS of 8-bit computation/67 TFLOPS of 16-bit floating point."
The Insider Gaming report provides additional insights into the leaked specs of the PS5 Pro. According to Insider Gaming, PS5 Pro development kits have been available to Sony's first-party studios since September of the previous year, with third-party developers gaining access in January.
While pricing details for the PS5 Pro remain undisclosed, it's expected to be higher than the current PS5, which retails for $449.99 for the Digital version and $499.99 for the disc version. Unless there are price reductions for the PS5, it's anticipated that the PS5 Pro will exceed $500 in cost, although the exact pricing remains uncertain.
Fans should approach all of this information with caution at this point. Sony has not officially confirmed the existence of the PS5 Pro, so it's wise to withhold excitement until an official announcement is made.
If the PS5 Pro does indeed exist, it's conceivable that Sony could unveil it during a PlayStation State of Play event or as part of the upcoming Summer Game Fest. Therefore, fans should stay vigilant for further updates.
