According to The NPD Group, Ghost Recon Breakpoint failed to outsell Minecraft in Q3 2019 which is not much of a surprise since the latter is actually successful. It is still a game with 8 years under the belt but even that's not necessarily the worst of the comparisons.

Matt Piscatella recently revealed the list of top 10 sellers for Q3 2019. Ghost Recon Breakpoint managed to shuffle its way into the top 10 but the results are anything but complimentary.

According to The NPD Group's report , the top 10 sellers are as follows:

  1. NBA 2K20
  2. Borderlands 3
  3. Madden NFL 20
  4. FIFA 20
  5. The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening*
  6. Minecraft
  7. GTA V
  8. Fire Emblem: Three Houses*
  9. Ghost Recon: Breakpoint
  10. Super Mario Maker 2*

Minecraft and GTA V are the oldest games on the list, with Minecraft initially being released in 2011 and GTA V in 2013. Still, this didn't stop their sales topping those of a new AAA game that was released in early September 2019.

Getting outsold by 6 and 8-year-old games is probably not even the worst part for Breakpoint though. Nintendo had three entries on the list - The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, Fire Emblem: Three Houses and Super Mario Maker 2. Breakpoint sold only more than the last one, despite all three of Nintendo's games making the list without taking digital sales into account.

It is not like Ghost Recon Breakpoint wasn't given a fair chance either. It released on 5 September 2019 so it had almost the entire opening month to make the list.

Meanwhile, NBA 2K20 is the best selling game of the entire year, discouraging any thoughts that the quarter might be generally low-performing. Furthermore, Ubisoft themselves confirmed the sales were very disappointing .
