PlaySide has delayed Game of Thrones: War for Westeros to early 2027, saying the extra development time will help deliver a more polished RTS experience.

Game of Thrones: War for Westeros has been officially delayed. Developer PlaySide announced that the strategy game will arrive in early 2027, rather than sometime in 2026 as previously stated.

“The team wants to take the time to deliver a product that meets our quality standards,” the studio said. “We’ve made the decision to delay Game of Thrones: War for Westeros to ensure we have the time we need to polish and get everything just right.”

Alongside the announcement, PlaySide revealed more information on War for Westeros’ factions, heroes, and battlefields. PlaySide added that the additional development time will help the team further polish its gameplay systems and ensure it can deliver a strategy game that will please both RTS fans and fans of Game of Thrones.

House Stark, House Lannister, House Targaryen, and the Night King’s Army of the Dead will all be playable factions in War for Westeros. Each faction has different playstyles and compelling heroes that impact battle in unique ways.

Jon Snow, for instance, can empower allies around him while charging into the heart of battle. Tywin Lannister, on the other hand, requires tactical positioning and calculated warfare. The developer noted that it’s continuing to tweak units to feel more responsive, along with pathfinding and squad behaviors to make mass battles feel alive.

Rather than micromanaging every individual soldier, you’ll be taking command of squads that autonomously position and attack with your guidance. Battles will also take place across a handful of famous locales from the HBO series.
