After three years in development, PlaySide Studios's Age of Darkness: Final Stand is finally gearing up for a full release. The real-time strategy title will leave early access this summer, and to celebrate the fact, a new trailer was shown off during the PC Gaming Show 2024.
The trailer focuses on the game's multiplayer mode, among other updates set to arrive with its 1.0 launch. The game will be available on PC via Steam.
The most notable additions include the full cooperative multiplayer mode, where two players can team up, strategize and fight together against the overwhelming darkness.
Besides co-op, the game features an extensive campaign where the players will have to fend off waves of enemies while trying not to get their armies wiped out.
Meanwhile, there are several unique mechanic parts that enhance this core gameplay:
- A day/night cycle dynamic, which may affect your strategy.
- An engulfing Fear system that challenges units with several psychological levels of torture.
- SwarmTech, which may power an army of nightmares up to 70,000 crawling across your screen in colossal, towering tsunamis.
Keeping such an army at arm's length could become almost an art: skill and quick wit could get a person through.
Failure is to be expected with each attempt to endure introducing new challenges and boosts through blessings or malices, keeping the gameplay fresh.
In early access, Age of Darkness: Final Stand was great because the campaign combined the tough-but-rewarding gameplay loop into a neat little bow. The narrative mode encourages players to develop creative tactics while balancing difficulty and a sense of achievement.
