Bungie releases new Marathon trailers highlighting PvP combat, PvE encounters, proximity chat mechanics and the upcoming Server Slam event.

Developer Bungie dropped two new trailers for Marathon today. Each new trailer dives into combat and faction mechanics, as well as PvE elements prior to Server Slam later this month. The newest trailers build off of the launch trailer we saw last week and begin to focus more on gameplay.

The sci-fi FPS will take place on Tau Ceti IV where players assume the role of Runners fighting to live and claim their prize. Each new trailer shown today discusses Marathon’s PvP mayhem as well as strategy when it comes to factions and PvE elements.

Server Slam arrives late February, so these videos give fans more insight into what games will look like when players get their hands on them.

"DEATH AWAITS" trailer focuses on PvP Combat

The first of two new Marathon trailers shares the title “DEATH AWAITS”. It depicts the PvP gameplay players can expect when taking on Tau Ceti IV. Multiple archetypes are demonstrated how players can kill each other.

One example is the Assassin, who uses stealth kills and separates targets from the rest of the gang. It also touches on how dangerous each run can be. No matter how well you perform, you can always be ambushed, killed after a defeat or swarmed by aggressive threats that lurk throughout the map.

Co-op, Rooks and PvE loot

Marathon‘s second trailer dives into co-operative play. Four players are shown working together briefly. A duo squad teams up with two Rooks, which are looter support characters.

Whether you can trust these fair-skinned scavengers isn’t shown, but teamwork is encouraged to stay alive longer. Elsewhere we learn more about PvE elements like Commander enemies that drop Gold quality loot.

Another gameplay addition is how voice chat becomes more muffled when players get further away from one another. Distance creates a useful tactical layer where teams should pick their formations wisely.

Dates and what’s included in Marathon’s Server Slam

Marathon players can test out these new trailers during the game’s Server Slam event. It’s taking place from February 26 to March 2. Specifically, the test run will feature:

  • Two raid maps
  • Starting Contracts for five of six Factions
  • Access to early game extraction systems
