Destiny 2’s next chapter is here. Bungie formally announced the next expansion, The Edge of Fate, which will release July 15. The game launched a new cinematic trailer during a developer livestream that provided a first look at the tone and setting of the new expansion. The video, and the livestream itself, also presented major gameplay features and overviews of new content being introduced in The Edge of Fate.
Guardians journeying to the new expansion will explore a new location called Kepler. The setting is a new solar system far from the ones Guardians have explored previously in Destiny 2, where they will encounter a “pre-history” unknown threat that arrived before anything else in the Sol system. New and returning characters were shown in the trailer, hinting at major developments for the live-service title’s long-term story.
The livestream also offered detailed looks at new gameplay systems, such as World Tiers, a new way of handling player progression, difficulty and rewards on Kepler. The Portal, a new in-game hub for the game to make accessing quests, activities, and gear more straightforward, was also highlighted.
What’s Coming in The Edge of Fate
- New Destination: Kepler, filled with lore, combat zones, and destination-specific abilities
- World Tiers: A scalable system allowing tailored gameplay difficulty and progression
- The Portal: A central hub for streamlined access to activities, loot, and gear
- New Combatants: Enemies designed specifically for the Kepler setting

The Edge of Fate is the new direction Bungie wants to take for Destiny 2. For returning fans and newcomers alike, Bungie is building upon the customization, challenge scaling, and streamlined access to the game’s core content that it’s made a priority since Forsaken’s release in 2018.
July 15 is fast approaching, and Destiny’s future is looking more accessible, and more mysterious, than ever.
