Bungie, the developers in charge of making the upcoming extraction shooter, Marathon, just announced the game's official release date, and it is March 2026.
In a quite lengthy video, the people in charge of development explained what we can expect from this game once it is out and what are the things that set it apart from many other games of the same genre out there.
What is Marathon?
For all the uninformed, Marathon is a first-person extraction shooter that takes place in the abandoned facilities of Tau Ceti IV. In this game, you'll play as a Runner, a bio-cybernetic mercenary in the hunt for resources and everything that was left on this planet after it had been abandoned.
Being an extraction shooter, the main goal of the game will be to survive and perfectly calculate the risk while going on runs. Marathon is a PvPvE game, meaning you'll compete against AI but also against other, real players. The game will be playable in teams and solo.
Fragile alliances
According to the developers, a very interesting mechanic from Arc Survivors will be present in Marathon as well, and it is the opportunity to form alliances between players and, of course, the possibility to betray them if you see fit to do so.
You'll have the opportunity to be a team player through and through, but you'll be able to play the game completely on your own without any help from teammates and other players. We cannot wait to see how well this will function in this game.
Pricing and the content
Apart from the announcement of the release date, we have been informed that Marathon's pricing would make many gamers happy because the game aims to deliver a full experience, including full access to the game, a roadmap of free gameplay as the year of release progresses, new maps, new Runner shells, events, and more, and all that for the price of $39.99/£34.99.
The additional regional pricing will be announced as the game comes closer to its release.
Also, the goal of developers is to make the game as close to the players as possible by making all the content, even the one that was time-sensitive and restricted, available for purchase later.
