Destiny 2 has an abundance of currencies that can often confuse players and destination materials belong in that group.
While the name might imply they are something that is used for crafting, that is not the case and they are genuinely just additional currencies that are bloating the mechanics of player economy.
Bungie realised this and decided they will start the removal of the materials at the start of Season 19.
At this point, you will no longer be able to obtain:
- Dusklight Shards
- Microphasic Datalattice
- Helium Filaments
- Baryon Boughs
- Spinmetal Leaves
- Glacial Starwort
During the season, the materials can still be exchanged at Master Rahool at the ratio of 250 Glimmer for one destination material but he will no longer offer the materials in exchange for other goods.
Rahool will keep exchanging Legendary Shard for Glimmer while the destination materials will be removed from the transaction while Enhancement Prisms and Ascendant Shards will cost more Legendary Shards.
One of the main issues with removing destination materials is that people relied on them to acquire Glimmer. Bungie will increase Glimmer gains from public events to compensate for this so a Heroic event will now yield at least 10,000 Glimmer.
Ghost mods that were used for obtaining additional materials will be removed with the season start while Bountiful Harvest will now increase Glimmer gains instead.
