In the latest episode of Night City Wire, CD Project Red showed off some of what the city has to offer, and we're talking about a huge, densely packed city with tons of mini-stories - an explorer's dream.
CDPR stressed that they wanted a super-organic city, handcrafted with such attention to detail that even rubbish was carefully planned out and hand-placed.
Cyberpunk 2077's glorious city is far larger than anything in The Witcher franchise, with megabuildings housing smaller buildings beneath. Players who like exploration should find it to be a blast, and the shots we've seen are increasingly mouth-watering.
Now, this is not slamming The Witcher franchise. In fact, if you know what to look for, you'd know it's been instrumental in making Cyberpunk 2077 a reality, both in the financial sense and in ensuring that the story grips you and doesn't let go.
The importance of side quests in immersion was one of the main takeaways from The Witcher 3, and Cyberpunk 2077 is set to amplify that to the Nth degree, with a bunch of mini-stories and encounters that you'll come across when wandering in Night City. These should make the game even more real and organic.
CDPR also discussed the gangs of Night City, which are almost as important as the corporations, and are far more colourful, to say the least.
One of the absolute standouts is Maelstrom, the gang that just loves cyberware. If you see someone modded out of their mind, chances are you want to take it easy, because such amounts of modding take a toll on them - and potentially you too if you don't watch your step.
Voodoo Boys are the best net runners in town and that makes them a valuable ally or a fierce enemy, while Animals specialise in organic and cybernetic mass. The sort that puts a hole in your face with a mere punch.
Of course, there are quite a few more gangs in Night City, and once you've added the corporations, we're looking at a huge, bustling city, that is likely to set a benchmark for any and all cyberpunk-themed games for years to come.
