Austin-based studio Certain Affinity have been working on Halo Infinite for a while now, helping out 343 Industries with the development but at the same time, the studio have also revealed there's something they've been doing for Halo Infinite on their own.
It's a brand new mode for Halo Infinite, rumoured to be codenamed Tatanka. Details about the mode surfaced a couple of months ago, revealing that the mode is a hybrid between Halo 5 Warzone and the battle-royale genre.
Tatanka is yet to be officially announced by Xbox and Certain Affinity but the studio have confirmed that they have been "entrusted with further evolving Halo Infinite in some new and exciting ways". In the most recent interview with VentureBeat, Certain Affinity once again teased this mode:
"We're doing something unannounced, we're doing lead development on that unannounced thing, from conception and design," they said. "It's something big and new for the franchise."
Certain Affinity currently employ about 240 developers and they have close to 100 developers working on the Halo Infinite mode. The studio is pretty clear that this is the single largest project of their three, in-development projects at the moment.
The information about Tatanka are pretty scarce so far but we know the mode will feature PvPvE mechanics, reviving, dropping down from an aircraft and the signature mechanic of every battle royale - the shrinking zone.
Certain Affinity are also rumoured to be working on a brand new IP for Xbox Game Studios. Apparently, the game is codenamed Project Suerte and it has some similarities to the Monster Hunter genre of games.
