It's another year for Destiny 2 and another Solstice of Heroes. Some of the content was already datamined but now we've got an official trailer and details on Elemental Orbs, European Aerial Zone 3-player matchmade activity and more.
So, Destiny 2: Solstice of Heroes kicks off on 30 July and will run until 27 August 2019 and, just like before, it all starts with a visit to Eva Levante near the Statue of Heroes in the Tower.
Yet another returning feature are the Elemental Orbs, which come in three flavours - Solar, Arc and Void. These are earned by elemental kills and picking them up lets you complete objectives to improve your armour.
Destiny 2 players can collect 30 Orbs of the daily element and get elemental buffs for a while. The Solar Elemental buff lets guardians emit a burning energy wave, damaging all around them.
Void Elemental buffs let you crouch to become invisible and gain Truesight with enhanced ability regeneration, while the Arc Elemental buff lets guardians move with enhanced speed and deal more melee and sword damage.
Note that these Destiny 2 buffs are not applicable to Competitive or Gambit Prime, and they last for a "short time" or until you've been defeated. Bungie didn't specify how short exactly, but we'll know soon enough.
Bungie also unveiled a new ritual to perfect your skills, and the new European Aerial Zone will let you take on Hive, Cabal or Fallen in a 3-player matchmade activity you can launch from the Tower or the Director.
"Your goal will be to defeat as many minibosses as possible before time expires. When your time runs out, you will face off against a final boss. Once the boss is defeated, you will set out across the EAZ in search of treasure chests. The more minibosses you defeat, the more treasure will await you", they wrote.
As rewards, Destiny 2 players will receive Solstice Packages, for which you'll need Solstice Key Fragments to open, and these are earned by completing any activities over the course of the event. The packages come with rare and legendary gear, enhancement cores and materials.
Should you complete all of the Solstice Legendary armour sets on all three classes, you'll be given the EV-37 Voidstreak Sparrow on the photo above.
"Solstice of Heroes armor sets will need to be upgraded from their “Drained” Uncommon state to their “Renewed” Rare state. Completing the armor upgrade process will grant you the “Majestic” Legendary set. To upgrade the armor, Guardians must complete a variety of objectives on each armor piece before advancing to the next set", Bungie wrote.
Unlocking the Masterwork version of the set will be done via a final set of objectives.
Additionally, these armour sets will be fully Shadowkeep compatible as they're part of Armor 2.0, so no need to worry that all that effort will be in vain.
