Battlefield 2042 is introducing a brand new limited-time event called Future Strike which emphasises smaller 4v4 and 8v8 matches. Future Strike is all about close-quarters action where squad play is required to beat the other team.
It reminds me a bit of Rainbow Six Siege's with 90-second round-based matches and loadouts, downed state mechanics, revives and spectator mode when killed. Every third round in the game will be titled Shock Round where all players will use the same locked loadout.
Future Strike is part of the ongoing Season 7: Turning Point and will be available for free to all players from May 28, to June 10, 2024, across all platforms.
Additionally, each squad will be restricted to only one Specialist character in the squad and teams will be able to see the opponent's team composition. Again, very similar to Rainbow Six Siege.
All in all, the new mode sounds quite fun and I think I'll give it a go once it arrives next week. Battlefield 2042 is available on Game Pass and EA play so players can jump in to check out Future Strike without fully buying the game, which is a plus.
It's a shame that the event will eventually expire but if the community likes it then who knows, EA and DICE may decide to make it a permanent mode within the game.
In addition to the new mode, there are plenty of new cosmetics, bundles and rewards that you can unlock by playing the game and earning ribbons if that's your thing.
Battlefield 2042 is nearing the end of its live service cycle as EA have already started to talk about the next Battlefield game which should be announced soon.
