We haven't heard much about Concord ever since Sony officially announced the game at their big showcase last year. Concord is a PvP first-person shooter developed by Firewalk Studios who recently joined the PlayStation family and that's pretty much everything we know so far.
The game is scheduled to be released later this year, though, so Sony should start giving us more info in the coming months. Until then, we have some new details on how Concord could play. The info comes from a leaker Oliver Ollé on social media X who talked about Sony's new push towards live service games, especially after the success of Helldivers 2.
The leaker mentioned Concord, which, according to his sources, can be described as "Sea of Thieves in space with extra steps". He did not elaborate on what exactly this means but it's possible that Concord plays very similar to Sea of Thieves, allowing players to get their own ship, customise it and travel the space in search of quests, raids and loot.
Sea of Thieves is quite the sandbox extraction experience too, I'd say, and such mechanics could certainly work well within the space pirate theme.
All of this would make sense as the official reveal trailer did feature space travel and a ship jam-packed with various items including weapons, clothing items and more.
On paper, it's an interesting concept no doubt about it but it remains to be seen whether or not Firewalk Studios manage to pull it off. Guess we'll find out when Sony finally give us the first gameplay footage, which is expected to air at the PlayStation Showcase sometime this month.
Firewalk's Concord is another PlayStation first-party title that will be released on PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam simultaneously. The game does not have a specific release date just yet but it's confirmed to be launching sometime later this year.
