Mortal Shell may perplex new players with a whole lot of chests they can't loot. Here is how you can open these and fill your pockets with valuables.

Cold Symmetry didn't exactly hold the players' hands as they went through Mortal Shell and most of the secrets and even regular game mechanics had to be discovered by the player.

Alternatively, they could go on the internet and find out how to deal with their issue or to see if they missed something. If you are in this group, you came to the right place to learn how the locked chests work in the game.

There are no lockpicks or keys in Mortal Shell. Instead, to open the locked chests, you need to cause fog in the Fallgrim map.

To cause the fog, you need to enter one of the three temples, defeat the boss and loot a Sacred Gland.

Once you have a gland in possession, the fog will envelop the swamp, all the human-like enemies will be replaced by Noctserpers, the vampire-like imps, and all the chests will be unlocked.

Navigating the map will be harder due to the lack of light, with only the gland there to help you see things clearly.

In order to even fight a boss and loot a gland, you will need to find your way there. While Mortal Shell doesn't have a map and players struggle with the maze-like design with no landmarks that would serve as waypoints, the community has been hard at work to map the place and help people navigate .

Use the linked map above to find your way to Martyr's Altar, Shifting Archives and Sanctum of Flame where bosses and glands are located.

Other than that, you will need to bring your A-game since these bosses are some of the toughest enemies in the game, much more powerful than the run-of-the-mill Grisha you encounter early on.
