It is the well-known feature of all Souls-like titles, in their level design, to have several blockers or mechanics that will prevent you from progressing through the game for as long as you don't find a way to get rid of that particular blocker. Being a true Souls-like title, Hollow Knight: Silksong contains such blockers, and the first one you'll come across is the wall made of silk.
This wall will prevent your progress inside the second game's level, The Marrow. If you try to hit this wall with the needle, you'll be able to destroy one or two parts of this wall, but as the needle strikes the next part, the previous one will quickly regenerate, so destroying this wall with the needle simply won't cut it.

How to destroy silk walls in Hollow Knight: Silksong
The first silk wall you'll come across in Hollow Knight: Silksong will be located inside the second level, The Marrow, or more specifically, just before the Bell Beast boss. Bell Beast will be trapped inside this wall, and you won't be able to start the fight until you find a way to get rid of the silk wall surrounding the boss.
To destroy those walls, you must acquire the mandatory skill called Silkspear. This skill is located to the left of the Bell Beast boss. Once you reach the room where there are several enemies that drop rosaries, with two of them throwing red orbs at you. The one that stands on the platform is the one that interests us right now.
Get past this enemy and activate a lever that opens the floor beneath it, but instead of going through the floor, go up and follow this path. Following the way above the lever will lead you to the skill. Activate the skill, and now, you'll be able to use Silkspear as a weapon and as the tool for destroying silk walls.
