Hollow Knight: Silksong, the newest 2D Metroidvania-style Souls-like from Team Cherry, borrows a lot of the same mechanics that have been used in the previous game, and mapping the areas to better orient yourself is one of those mechanics. Without maps, it would really be hard to get your bearings in this game, that's for sure.
In Hollow Knight: Silksong, the maps can be purchased from the specific merchant, just as was the case in the previous game, and if you're wondering who this merchant is and where to find it in Hollow Knight: Silksong, we've prepared a guide for you that will try to explain everything concerning this in-game mechanic.
How to get maps in Hollow Knight: Silksong
To be able to obtain the first map, and after that all other maps, you'll have to meet a certain NPC first, and her name is Shakra. Shakra is located inside the second in-game area called The Marrow. She can be found on the main path located just before the first boss, Bell Beast. This area is unmissable, and to progress through the game, you must come across her.
Once you find Shakra, she will talk to you and inform you that she is the map merchant, ready to sell you everything from her inventory, provided you have enough rosaries to pay for them. Luckily, around Shakra, there are enough rosaries to gather and enemies to defeat, which will drop this currency.
She will have two maps available, for the two areas you already visited, Bone Bottom and The Marrow. Apart from that, you'll be able to buy the compass and some other tools that will help you make your maps even more useful, like certain pins and the quill for mapping visited locations on your maps.
After beating the Bell Beast boss, Shakra will relocate to the area where all other NPCs are waiting, and as you progress through the game, she will always be available to you in the new locations to sell you new maps and tools.
