In Hollow Knight: Silksong, the newest action-adventure Souls-like from Team Cherry, the sole weapon the protagonist will wield is the needle—a very simple yet very effective weapon, or at least, very effective for a silk bug, that is.
Anyhow, this weapon will be the only one available throughout the entire game, and since the enemies don't fall that easily, you'll want to upgrade your needle as soon as possible.
If you're wondering where you can do that, we've prepared a guide with all the answers regarding upgrading this weapon, where to find the merchant that will do this job for you, and what the requirements are for making the needle as deadly as possible.
How to upgrade the weapon in Hollow Knight: Silksong
Upgrading the needle is as simple as finding the merchant, or the pinmaster, as it is called in this game, to sharpen it properly. However, finding such a merchant will require a lot of hard work—you'll have to finish a very lengthy side quest which includes gaining a couple of skills and killing the optional boss in the process.
The side quest in question is called "The Threadspun Town", and you'll start it automatically once you beat the Moorwing boss and reach the area called Bellahart. Once you enter this area, you'll notice that this town is cursed and all its inhabitants are hanging on silk threads.
To make the pinmaster available, you'll have to lift the curse from this town first. If you don't know how to do it, check out our guide for more details. Once the curse is lifted, return to Bellhart and climb the platforms on the far left of the town. Climbing to the top will lead you to the shop with several needles on its signs, and inside this shop, you'll meet the pinmaster Plinney.
After talking to him, he will sharpen your needle to be more efficient in combat. If you speak with him the second time, he will give you a wish to fulfill called Pinmaster's Oil. This wish requires you to find this oil and return it to Plinney; then he will be able to upgrade the needle even further.
This oil is located somewhere inside the Citadel; however, since we haven't found it yet, once we do, we will update this guide with its location. In any case, this will upgrade your needle to the first level, and you'll feel the difference immediately.
