You can beat Elden Ring without ever getting one of the key items that unlock a pretty substantial gameplay mechanic called Ashes of War.
Ashes of War basically allow you to perform super cool and powerful attacks but to be able to unleash these on the foes roaming The Lands Between, you need to find a certain item called Whetstone Knife, which is very easy to miss.
Whetstone Knife can be obtained very early in the game and with our guide, you'll have it in your possession in no time.
Whetstone Knife location in Elden Ring
Whetstone Knife can be found in a cellar beneath Gatefront Ruins in Limgrave, the first area of Elden RIng. Go to the Gatefront Ruins where you'll find a bandit camp. Once you clear out the bandits, you'll notice stairs that lead underground, below the ruins.
At the end of the underground path, you'll notice a door that will lead you to a room with a chest that has Whetstone Knife and Ash of War: Storm Stomp.
