Every single RPG these days follows the same fighting style consisting of light attack, heavy attack, charge attack, and most importantly, the dodge mechanics that are always present in games of this genre.
However, Dragon's Dogma 2, the latest RPG from Capcom, deviates a little from this formula by adopting a slightly different approach where, instead of dodging enemy attacks, positioning in battle plays a pivotal role.
If you find Dragon Dogma's fighting system perplexing or too confusing, we've prepared a guide with essential tips and tricks on how to make every fight in Dragon's Dogma 2 an enjoyable ride. So, without further ado, let's begin.
Fighting tips and tricks
Positioning is the key
As you probably already know, Dragon's Dogma 2 has four different classes to play in, and regardless of which one you choose, the essence of combat stays unchanged. When attached by enemies, always try to isolate a single enemy and if you are playing as a fighter, the best way is to draw a shield and move around them. When they strike, try to approach them from the back and use the Empale strike. Smaller enemies will instantly perish, while the stronger ones will be severely damaged.
Move around a battlefield
This is actually one of the best tips, because staying stationary will make you easily overwhelmed by enemies. Also, if you are facing flying creatures, they tend to attack you with speed, and if you stay still, you will soon become their prey.
Always stay close to your teammates and use team commands
Dragon's Dogma 2's fighting system heavily relies on the cooperation of other pawns (your teammates). Try to enlist different classes of pawns to maximise the efficiency of combat and to use all this combat style has to offer. When in trouble or when you want your pawns to help you, do not forget to use D-Pad commands to let them know what you want. In many cases, those commands can mean the difference between life and death in combat.
Change pawns when opportunity arise
Throughout your journey, you will meet new pawns who will want to join you. Do not stick to the old ones because, contrary to your main pawn companion, they do not level up, so as your level rises, you will want to have the stronger companions. However, keep in mind that once you release a pawn from your service, they will carry all the items they own with them. So, before releasing them, make sure to take from them everything that you hold important to you.
And there you have it. These are some tips and tricks that will help you get through many of the encounters in Dragon's Dogma 2, and with proper preparation and upgrading to be done, there will be no enemy that will stay immune to the might of you and your fateful pawns.
