To make Gagana spawn, you'll need to solve a small puzzle first.

In Dragon's Dogma II: Dark Arisen, summoning Gagana in its grotto means lighting three fire pits and feeding them the bodies of creatures camouflaged in the snow. Here's exactly how to trigger the fight and what to bring.

As part of the DLC's main questline, Eir sends you after Gagana's feather, which you'll need to melt the ice wall blocking your progress. Finding the grotto itself is the easy part, since the map points you straight there. Getting Gagana to actually show up once you've arrived is the real puzzle, and the game offers no prompts or objective markers to walk you through it.

Step 1: Read the mural

Head to the large mural at the back of the grotto and interact with it. The text is written in a deliberately archaic style, but the gist is this: find three beasts camouflaged in the snow, kill them, and set their bodies on fire at the altar.

Step 2: Light the three fire pits

In front of the mural you'll find three fire pits. Approach each one and press the interact button (B on Xbox) to set it burning.

Step 3: Track down the three snow-camouflaged creatures

As soon as you entered the area, three creatures disguised against the snow spawned nearby. Kill them. If one drops into a pit or otherwise goes missing, don't worry: the game keeps spawning replacements until you've downed three.

Step 4: Carry each body to a pit

Once a creature is dead, press LT to pick up its body, carry it to one of the fire pits, and drop it in. Repeat this for the other two bodies. Feeding all three pits produces rising smoke, which is the actual trigger the mural was describing.

Step 5: Fight Gagana

Once the smoke rises, Gagana appears and the fight begins. This one hits harder than most early grotto encounters, and the creature breathes fire constantly, so stock up beforehand, especially on anything that negates fire damage.

Quick tip: Don't bother hunting for a fourth body or worrying if a creature respawns somewhere inconvenient. The trigger is simply three bodies burnt in the three pits, not a specific creature or a timed sequence, so take your time working through them one at a time.
