Bungie have put a cap on the amount of tokens that can be earned in the Faction Rally event. Shortly after the event went live, players started to notice they stopped receiving tokens after a period of time. Bungie confirmed and explained the issue, vowing to fix it in the next patch.
Bungie has to be Britney circa 2000s, because oops they did it again. Now if we wait seven more years, it might have a meltdown and shave its head. I had to google all of this corniness.
This article was bound to become informational at some point, so I might as well start now: Bungie went and put a severe cap on the amount of tokens that can be earned per hour in the currently active Faction Rally event.
The first Faction Event of season two kicked off earlier this week, and had the players pledge allegiance to one of the three in-game factions. The game would then grant them tokens for doing activities in the name of that faction.
The tokens in question can be used to increase your standing with a faction, which is Bungie's fancy talk for "more loot boxes". In the absence of said tokens, you use real-life currency, so you see where this one is going.
Not long after the Faction Event went live, players started to notice they weren't earning as many tokens as they did during the previous event. The Lost Sectors' end-game chests stopped providing faction tokens after a period of time.
The problem was first pointed out by a Reddit user nicknamed p7mmy, only to later be confirmed and addressed by Bungie:
"We're aware of player reports about Lost Sectors not granting rewards. There was a throttle added to address an issue in the previous Faction Rallies where players were earning 500 Tokens per hour. (...) Right now if a player opens more than 2 Chests in a 10 minute period they will not receive additional rewards from Lost Sector chests for 10 minutes. This does not prevent players from completing milestones related to Lost Sector chests."
This issue would have probably been avoided if Bungie went and only fixed the Winding Cove exploit that allowed players to earn hundreds of tokens per hour. Instead, they put a game-wide cap on the number of tokens players can earn per hour.
Game director Christopher Barrett tweeted:
