Xbox lowers Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass prices, while confirming future Call of Duty titles will no longer launch day one on the service.

Xbox has announced its upcoming Xbox Game Pass price change while detailing how Call of Duty will join Game Pass in the future. Starting today, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate membership will cost $22.99 a month, compared to the old price of $29.99.

PC Game Pass subscriptions will now run at $13.99, down from $16.49. Depending on where you live, prices may vary slightly, but that’s generally a significant decrease for both subscription tiers.

Lower Prices, But Delayed Call of Duty Releases

In exchange for lower prices, Xbox has confirmed that starting now, new Call of Duty games will not be on Game Pass from day one. Instead, new instalments in the long-running franchise will join Game Pass approximately one year after release.

They’ll typically land on Game Pass during the holiday season after their initial release window. Thankfully for subscribers, this doesn’t affect any Call of Duty games that are already on Game Pass.

Games such as Black Ops Cold War, Vanguard, Modern Warfare, and older entries will all remain on the service. For context, Game Pass Ultimate still gives subscribers access to a vast library of games on console and PC.

In addition to that, players also get Xbox Live Gold, which allows access to online multiplayer, in-game rewards, and Discord Nitro. Despite Call of Duty’s delay, Game Pass subscribers will still get day-one releases from Bethesda,Activision, Ubisoft, and more from Xbox’s first-party studios.

Xbox notes that there’s no “ideal” subscription model for everyone, so they’ll continue to iterate on what Game Pass has to offer. So, while cheaper prices are a welcome change, some might balk at big games like Call of Duty not being available right away. Game Pass’ value is now more in the eye of the beholder than it has ever been.
