Xbox has announced backward compatibility on PC, enabling players to experience classic games from the original Xbox console. The compatibility was announced earlier today and is now live as part of Microsoft’s plans to preserve older Xbox games on PC and handheld devices.
The four original Xbox titles launching today are:
- BLiNX: The Time Sweeper
- Conker: Live & Reloaded
- Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge
- Fusion Frenzy
All four games are available for purchase on PC and are included as part of Xbox Game Pass subscriptions of all types.
Xbox Vice President of Next Generation Jason Ronald shared that Microsoft wants players to be able to keep playing their games as hardware improves. “Game libraries are a reflection of countless hours of fun and memories. As hardware evolves, we believe it’s important for players to be able to continue playing their games on new platforms instead of leaving them behind,” said Ronald.
“Today we’re starting small by bringing four titles to PC. This is just the beginning of our efforts to open up classic Xbox games to players on PC”, he added.
Classic Xbox games on PC include additional enhancements such as graphical options including support for “4x resolution upscaling, VSync, fullscreen/windowed mode, anisotropic filtering, better antialiasing methods, along with other display tweaks.”
Language options and subtitles can also be modified in audio settings.More original Xbox titles will be supported in backward compatibility updates in the future. Microsoft says they will also bring Xbox achievements to select titles as the library expands.
