Aspyr is remastering Shrek 2, and Microsoft accidentally told everyone before the official reveal. A store page for Shrek 2 Remastered went live on the Xbox Store today, October 16, before being quickly removed. The listing revealed the developer as Aspyr, the studio behind the Tomb Raider I-VI remastered collections and the more recently released Deus Ex: Remastered, making it a natural fit for a nostalgia-driven remaster of another early 2000s classic.
The game is set for a proper announcement at the ID@Xbox Showcase on October 20, and the accidental leak tracks with that timing. Shrek 2 also briefly appeared in the teaser trailer for the showcase itself. News of the remaster first surfaced in September during a large-scale Steam Achievements leak that also revealed upcoming titles, including Persona 6 and Kingdom Hearts IV, so today’s store page showing is essentially a confirmation of what many had already suspected.
According to the now-removed listing, Shrek 2 Remastered rebuilds the 2004 action adventure game with better textures, enhanced UI, 4K resolution, and remastered cutscenes. A new Photo Mode has been added alongside a Cheat Mode. The core game, which follows Shrek, Donkey, Puss in Boots, Fiona, and the Gingerbread Man through levels inspired by the film as they travel to Far Far Away, supports up to four players in couch co-op, online multiplayer, and a mixed online and local co-op mode.
Players can swap between heroes at any time to use their unique abilities for combat and puzzle solving, just as in the original. No release date or pricing was listed before the page was taken down.
