Blizzard announced the release date for World of Warcraft: Shadowlands, showcased a new trailer and offered more information on what we will be up to in the new expansion.
Shadowlands is set to release on October 27, 2020, exactly two months after the release date's announcement. Blizzard coupled the reveal with a new trailer that included environment showcase and a few shots of fancy combat animations.
As many players have known for a while now, Shadowlands will play out in Warcraft's version of the afterlife. It has been thrown into disarray but it remains to be seen what was the tipping point - Sylvanas' meddling or potential corruption through Uther Lightbringer's vengeance-fed actions, seen at the bottom of this article.
Wrath of the Lich King veterans may remember Uther being finally at peace back when we took down Arthas as the soul of the renowned Paladin decided to forgive his former protege. One could think that the animated trailer, linked above, could be a retcon to that particular story arc but lore wizards pointed out that Uther's soul was split in two after he found himself on the wrong side of Frostmourne, meaning a retcon might not be necessary.
Either way, we will arrive to Shadowlands to attempt to restore order and prevent virtuous souls from being cast into the Maw, Warcraft's version of hell.
Covenants from the Shadowlands have also fallen on hard times and heroes of Azeroth will forge pacts with these otherworldly organisations in order for them to help each other and face the new big baddie that's attempting to free itself.
One of the most interesting additions will likely be the trails of Torghast in the Tower of the Damned where players will be able to farm up their gear.
