Krafton announced that they will be removing tactical gear from PUBG which may come as a surprise to some players and a welcome change to others.
Initially, the devs wanted to double down on the tactical gear by making it mandatory as it would allow newer players to be more useful to the squad without having to know how to aim, compensate for bullet velocity and falloff immediately.
Things didn't work out as planned and the idea is being canned for now.
With the patch 25.2, tactical gear is getting deactivated entirely and players will be able to enjoy more mayhem and less utility overall.
Krafton did note they plan to reintroduce the system at some point in the future but currently, there are no indications whether that will be permanent or a temporary addition for an event, LTM or something along those lines.
They also said the team will be re-evaluating the role and functionality of tactical gear from the ground up while it is disabled, meaning players will possibly get a different version of it when, or rather - if it comes back.
It appears that the change had something to do with player feedback, which is always nice to see. After all, games should aim to please the players rather than frustrate them.
