New World is getting its first expansion on October 3, 2023, when Rise of the Angry Earth pops up and brings several major changes to the game.
Some of the highlights include the mounts, level, trade skill and gear score cap increases, a new weapon and First Light's transformation into Elysian Wilds.
Mounts are probably the most talked about as they will change the way players travel as well as the time necessary to get from point A to point B. In the latest dev update, Amazon Game Studios revealed more juicy details about the system.
First, the mounts will not increase the movement speed at the top of their potential immediately. You will need to level up their own trade skill in order to maximise their speed and you gain experience in it by riding a mount.
There are three mount types - horse, lion and wolf. The devs didn't reveal much about their differences but it seems like they are mostly the same except for cosmetic differences.
Speaking of, the mounts have a few inventory slots of their own with two slots being reserved for cosmetics. These are basically just additions to their appearance. For example, you can add a shield or some sort of bags to your mounts inventory so it shows on them while they are around.
Players will also be able to name their mounts and they come with default names as well so they are not simply called "Horse" or "Wolf".
There is some sort of ability that increases their speed until the stamina goes down but we will have to wait to get more details on that.
