PUBG Studios' 2024 roadmap has already hinted at the possibility of an old map returning to PUBG: Battlegrounds. They further teased this by stating that they intend to "reimagine existing worlds" to create new in-game experiences.
This appears to be one of the developer's priorities for the year, so more PUBG maps may receive throwback editions or makeovers, such as the 7th Anniversary Erangel map, which was published in March.
Fortunately, PUBG players looking for new ways to enjoy their favourite game will not have to wait long before the next reinvented map is released, as PUBG has confirmed the return of Erangel in their latest social media post on X (formerly known as Twitter)
When can we play on the Erangel Classic map again?
Erangel Classic is going to be accessible to play on PC from May 14 to May 28, and on console from May 23 to June 6. During this time, the Classic version will substitute for the currently running Erangel map on Normal Match.
What can we expect from the Erangel Classic map?
Erangel Classic has a number of throwback characteristics, including cloudy and rainy weather, bench weaponry at the starting island, & the former UI's minimap, worldmap, typography, and artwork.
The map will also include several substantial gameplay tweaks, including weapons with lower recoil and longer knockdown times, all of which are intended to simulate PUBG's early days. Other changes include the Tommy Gun becoming offered in care packages as well as clothing and helmets spawning over the ground.
What else has PUBG planned for 2024?
PUBG's 2024 vision also prioritised upgrading the game's anti-cheat mechanism. They claimed that it banned over 3 million cheaters in 2023, representing a 33% increase over 2022.
Over the coming year, the company intends to catch even more cheaters by incorporating machine learning technology into its anti-cheat system.
Apparently, this technology is particularly good at detecting some of the most common sorts of cheaters, such as aimbots and ESP. So we can expect a more balanced and fair meta in the future.
