PUBG has a large pool of weapons, which has recently been enriched by the Dragunov DMR.
With more variation come more balancing issues and Krafton devs elaborated on their thought process, allowing players to see what certain weapons were meant for and how they got where they are.
The two topics of conversation were the aforementioned Dragunov and the AUG.
In the case of Dragunov, the devs wanted a 7.62 DMG that was different than others without making it overpowered. As you can imagine, this is no easy task but in the end the decision was to make it have more headshot damage than other weapons in the class.
Still, being a DMR, it can not one-tap enemies through a headshot since its fire rate would make it too oppressive. As such, we got a weapon that will drastically improve your performance if you land headshots but trading them with a bolt-action rifle is never recommended.
As for the AUG, the weapon was hit with nerfs to fire rate and recoil, which may have left some players with unanswered questions. The answer to the "why" is that the collected data eventually pointed to it being more powerful than its main competitor in the other caliber, Beryl.
Some of the reasons for AUG's dominance appear to be the existence of Mk12, which lets players pack lighter ammo all around and carry more throwables as a result.
WIth the nerfs the weapon got, this aspect of gameplay will be preserved but its DPS is now between the Beryl and M416, making it less potent on its own.
