New World is getting rid of one of the starting zones and replacing it with an endgame version of itself, removing the housing and the fort in the process.
You might wonder what prompted such a change and we will try to explain it from both the developers' perspective as well as the in-game lore one.
In a nutshell, the devs acted based on player choices, which is not the first time something like this happened.
Namely, other zones received changes previously, with Everfall and Monarch's Bluffs being the poster children, with each change giving the zone a new character and outlook.
This is, however, the first time a zone is being completely overhauled and according to AGS, this si happened based on player choices thus far, which probably translates to a very low population in First Light so it is going away in favour of an endgame zone.
As far as the lore goes, Artemis used to be our reluctant ally during the base game and Brimstone Sands storylines but after a series of events that she didn't like, she got all riled up and promised to wipe out humanity.
It appears that eco-terrorism in First Light is her inaugural step in this campaign and it is up to us to stop the new villain's rise.
