Valve has finally announced its newest game: Deadlock, a 6v6 hero shooter that people have been speculating about for weeks. While the game hasn't been formally announced until now, it really hasn't been a secret due to the current rumors and playtests keeping it on everyone's mind, so this reveal isn't so surprising.
Now, Valve has put up a Steam page for Deadlock, where the company describes that it's early in development. According to the page, access is restricted only to those getting invites from current playtesters.
Somehow, despite that limited availability, a lot of interest in it was already created. According to SteamDB, this peaked earlier in the day at more than 89,000; at the time of writing, there were over 45,000 players online simultaneously.
Worth noting is that Valve has come out to say Deadlock is still very much a work in progress. The company does warn that the game's making use of temporary art and experimental gameplay at this stage, clearly indicating some big changes are likely to be made further on down the line in development.
As people hop in now, they should be bracing for ongoing updates and changes in the weeks and months to come as Valve refines the game.
This one's a rare moment for Valve, because it doesn't do this frequently with new games. With Deadlock, fans are going to have something that will be an evolving dynamic shooter experience.
