The Steam Deck is now cheaper than the Nintendo Switch. Valve has temporarily reduced the price of certain Steam Deck models, so that one of them now costs less than a new Nintendo Switch.
Summer sales start on Steam on Thursday, and discounts on Valve's hardware have already started. The Steam Deck is thus offered at a 15% lower price until July 11, 2024.
The basic model of the Steam Deck with 64 GB of space and an LCD screen can thus be purchased for 296.65$, which is cheaper even than the basic Nintendo Switch, which is a hardware-wise weaker platform. The Steam Deck model with 512 GB and LCD screen is also on discount and costs 381.65$.
Each comes with a carrying case, but the 512GB has an anti-glare screen and some extra goodies for your Steam profile. The SSD for the 512 is an NVMe, while the 64GB model uses a eMMC, which is a little bit slower. However, you can open up the Deck and replace the SSD, so this isn't a big issue.
In case you are not interested in the hardware, the games will be on the Steam Summer Sale discount from July 27th to July 11th. Valve is also announcing a new category of discounts called "Deep Discounts", but they have not yet revealed what exactly it is about.
And to remind you, Steam’s Summer Sale starts on June 27 and lasts until July 11. Valve says that the Steam Deck LCD, after the order, should arrive within a week.
