Umbral Engrams were a success when they launched in Season of Arrivals and Bungie are bringing them back to Destiny 2 for good apparently.

Bungie are bringing back more ways to acquire targeted loot, which should hopefully ease the impact of sunsetting since farming it up won't be as random as before. One of the ways of acquiring targeted loot we currently have are the Wrathborn Hunts and the season before the current one had Umbral Engrams.

Season of the Chosen, or Season 13, will have both of these tools at the Guardians' disposal. Umbral Engrams will mostly work the same way they did in Season of Arrivals - you get them through activities, bring them to the Recaster, choose what you'd like to get and then open the engram at the Decoder.

Activities that will award Umbral Engrams are:

  1. Patrols
  2. Strikes
  3. Crucible
  4. Gambit
  5. The Ordeal
  6. Public Events
  7. Blind Well
  8. Nightmare Hunts
  9. Exo Challenges
  10. Empire Hunts
  11. New Seasonal Activity

There are some changes, however, as Bungie announced that the Umbral Engrams will have lower drop rates so we will not be showered with them like in Season of Arrivals. Furthermore, they will not contain the targeted loot from Wrathborn Hunts since this activity will be available in the next season as well.

Focusing the Engrams will be expanded to more than one page since the system is here to stay so each season will have its own focusing page.
