Starfield's new (1.9.47.0) update is now available through Steam to players who opted into Beta and should be officially coming to all players very soon.
The new update is the biggest one yet, bringing hundreds of bug fixes, adjustments and improvements. One of the biggest highlights of the new update is the improved lighting.
Bethesda stated in the official patch notes that they've improved the look of 73 locations by tweaking the light sources and changing some of the colours. Eagled-eyed Starfield players on Reddit have already spotted these changes and it's safe to say that the dev team really knocked it out of the park.
As you can see in the comparison shots that we've attached in this article, some locations look completely different now. For example, Madam Sauvage's Place now has a warmer and more cosy tone instead of the previous sterile and cold look.
There are also other locations that received similar visual overhauls like the one below.
Other places did not get a massive change in lighting but some subtle improvements have been made to make the rooms look more natural, like this particular dining room below.
Players also discovered that sunrises and sunsets have seen improvements that make the scenery look more realistic, which is another nice addition in this new update.
These are just a couple of examples of improved lighting and we expect more to be found once the update goes live across all platforms including Xbox app on PC and Xbox Series X|S.
Despite a very high Metacritic score of 83 on Xbox and 85 on PC, Starfield is one of the most criticised games of 2023 with many fans calling Bethesda's design outdated and needing changes.
Hopefully, with more updates, Bethesda can fix some of the issues that are holding back Starfield as there is something very special in this sci-fi RPG beneath all the problems the game has.
