Xbox Series X|S sales skyrocketed 136 per cent in September thanks to the launch of Bethesda's sci-fi epic RPG Starfield.

Starfield's launch last month helped move more Xbox Series X|S consoles in the UK, according to the latest data from GfK. Bethesda's RPG, which is exclusive to Xbox Series X|S and PC, helped boost the sales of Microsoft's console by 136 per cent over the previous month.

The Xbox Series X was the most popular console with Series S 512 GB edition in second place and the new 1TB black Series S in third.

So it's safe to say that September 2023 was a great month for Microsoft but despite the increased console sales, PlayStation 5 was still the best-selling console in the UK in September. Sony's console recorded a 24 per cent increase in sales over August.

This is not that unusual since PlayStation 5 has been selling better since the two consoles launched a couple of years ago. On top of this, Sony also have a massive release this month in Marvel's Spider-Man 2, so PlayStation 5 staying on top is somewhat expected, despite the launch of Starfield on Xbox Series X|S.

In addition to helping boost the sales of Xbox consoles, Starfield was also the best-selling game of September in the US and the seventh best-selling game of the year, which is quite an achievement when you take the Game Pass launch into consideration.

Microsoft are seemingly using the momentum of the increased console sales for a new marketing campaign called Power Your Dreams, which kicked off yesterday with a new TV spot and impressive trailer at Las Vegas Sphere.

With a strong 2024 which includes new titles like Avowed, Hellblade 2 and more, Microsoft could indeed finally start moving more consoles than before.
