Developer Robert Space Industries have dropped a new lengthy tech video in which they showcase a bunch of impressive new features that have been implemented into StarEngine, the tech that powers both Star Citizen and Squadron 42.
The video starts with a view of a massive galaxy and goes down to the tiniest details on a planet level, where we can see stunning volumetric cloud formations, sprawling forests and mountains and massive futuristic cities with NPCs doing their usual daily routines.
Some of the other features that Robert Space Industries proudly reveal in the video are physically based destruction, seamless transition from ground to space, realtime biome generation, driving physics and much more.
What we got to see in the video is certainly one of the most impressive video game tech demos ever and a proper next-gen showcase. Obviously, none of this is in the game at the moment but the developers plan to update the engine step by step with the new features over the next 12 months.
Yes, it's going to take a while but judging by what we've seen in the trailer, it's certainly going to be worth the wait.
In case you never played Star Citizen but this engine demo got you hyped, you can play the game for free right now until November 30, 2023. Just head to the official website for instructions on how to download the game.
Star Citizen is obviously still in alpha so expect bugs, glitches and weird issues as you play.
