Focus Interactive recently revealed that one of their upcoming heavy hitters, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, has been delayed to the second half of 2024.
The cited reason is that they want to give the devs more time to polish the game and "exceed the expectations" of the fans.
While this is a common reason for delays, it is always better to abide by it than to get an undercooked release.
The statement also revealed that the sales forecast is rather positive because the game has been wish-listed on Steam more than one million times to date.
Granted, the wishlists don't always translate to sales but they are good indicators of an upcoming game's popularity and hype related to it.
Additionally, Space Marine 2 is coming to PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, meaning the development is a bit more complicated than just having it on one platform.
Furthermore, every release will need to go through multiple certification processes, which is likely to put a strain on the game's development time but keep in mind that these are not officially mentioned as the reasons for postponing the release.
