CitizenCon 2949 is in full swing and the news keeps coming. Cloud Imperium Games now demoed Star Citizen's new and upcoming additions, such as the new world with dynamic weather called microTech, which everyone is already excited for.
It's a snowy world with a frozen ocean, and thanks to a tech CIG call enlarged-scale terrain shadows, terrain features are visible from space. You can check it out around 20:00 although the demo begins slightly before. Either way, it's quite a sight, especially with the seamless transition from the big picture to closeups.
A lot of Star Citizen's world is covered in pines, and they're not masks either, which is how it was done thus far. CIG is actually designating terrain that distributed flora in real-time.
Star Citizen players will be able to check out microTech in the 3.8 update, which is due in December, but CIG demoed a few other things that will launch in 2020.
The first and probably the most impressive of those is the new landing zone, New Babbage, which is carved into the side of a mountain on microTech. You can check it out at around 27:00, and apparently it packs double the real estate of previous spaceports.
We must admit, the view from inside is even more glorious than from the outside, but we'll let you be the judge of that. There will also be additional visual effects dictated by different biomes, be it condensation on your cockpit or mist over the mountains.
If you happen to like what you see, you can check out Star Citizen's latest Free Fly event , which lets you test drive the game with all the ships in play. In-game manufacturers will basically let you test their warez on different days, culminating in the top-4 community voted ships for a few days.
