Stellar Blade developer SHIFT UP has signed a global publishing agreement with Level Infinite for their upcoming title Project Spirits, which is set to launch on PC, consoles and mobile.

SHIFT UP, the Korean developer behind Stellar Blade and Goddess of Victory: NIKKE, has partnered with Tencent's Level Infinite for its next project. Project Spirits will launch across PC, consoles, and mobile platforms, and it's developed on Unreal Engine 5 through collaboration with Tencent affiliate Yongxing Interactive.

This marks the second global collaboration between SHIFT UP and Level Infinite after Goddess of Victory: NIKKE became a mobile gacha phenomenon, generating substantial revenue since its 2022 launch. Both companies are banking on "even greater synergy" with Project Spirits (corporate speak for "we made ridiculous money last time, let's do it again").

The publishing deal extends beyond standard distribution, incorporating joint development between SHIFT UP and Yongxing Interactive. Yongxing's team consists of senior developers specialising in anime, comics, and games content, suggesting Project Spirits will follow SHIFT UP's established aesthetic direction rather than going in a completely different direction.

What We Know About Project Spirits

SHIFT UP and Level Infinite have revealed the working title, confirmed cross-platform development on Unreal Engine 5, and... that's essentially it. No genre confirmation, no gameplay details, no concept art, no release window - just a publishing announcement establishing the business relationship.

However, the cross-platform approach represents SHIFT UP's most ambitious technical scope yet. Goddess of Victory: NIKKE remains mobile-exclusive despite its success, whilst Stellar Blade launched solely on PlayStation 5 and followed with a PC version later. Simultaneously developing for PC, console, and mobile, especially if the team adds the Xbox version to the mix, will certainly be challenging.

At the moment, it's hard to say much about the game, given that we don't know anything, but it will certainly be interesting to follow this one. Given SHIFT UP's track record and a stellar first release, it's safe to say that we're excited to learn more about Project Spirits.

More information on Project Spirits will presumably arrive eventually, probably when SHIFT UP and Level Infinite actually have something concrete to show beyond corporate partnership announcements.
