Nvidia seems to be in for a good generation of RTX graphics cards. So good, in fact, that they are already planning for shortages and potential workarounds for when they happen.
RTX 3080 stock in Australia will be so low that not everyone will even get the right to purchase the initial batch. Instead, the fans will have to win a raffle first, which will grant them the right to get their hands on the new RTX generation.
It appears that Mwave has the exclusive rights to distribute Founders Edition of RTX 30 series and they are anticipating the demand to severely outweigh the supply. For this reason, they organised a raffle where potential purchasers will enter for a random chance to obtain the rights to buy either RTX 3080 or 3090.
The raffles will have a different time of expiration, possibly due to different release dates of each GPU. Both are live now and you can enter on the link above.
RTX 3080 raffle will close on September 18, 2020, at 2:00 PM AEST, and will be drawn at 3:00 PM AEST. Meanwhile, RTX 3090 raffle will conclude exactly one week later, on September 25, 2020, at 2:00 PM AEST and will be drawn at 3:00 PM AEST.
RTX 3070 raffle date and time will be added later but this one is releasing in October so this was to be expected.
Even if you don't happen to be one of the raffle winners, there is a silver lining - it is possible that Mwave will use the raffles as a way to gauge the public's interest and probably get enough GPUs in the next wave for everyone to buy. Who knows, a better next-gen deal might come around by that time.
There are signs other regions are getting bigger stock but shortages are expected there as well.
