Well, if you thought Pokemon Go was a strange way to make a game, then how about this - The Pokemon Company and Select Button are developing Pokemon Sleep, a game that turns sleeping into gameplay, thanks to Pokemon Go Plus Plus sensor.
"What if you could continue training your Pokemon...even in your sleep? In 2016, Pokemon GO turned the simple act of walking into entertainment, making the entire world into a game. We're about to do it again, Trainers—this time, for sleeping", they wrote.
Pokemon Sleep launches sometime in 2020, and The Pokemon Company are planning a peripheral as well.
Dubbed the Pokemon Go Plus +, the device can be used as a regular Pokemon Go Plus during the day, but its key function happens when you sleep.
Putting the device next to your pillow tracks your time sleeping and it sends the collected information to your smartphone via Bluetooth.
Apparently, "several Snorlax were consulted on this, in case you were wondering", so Niantic are having special sleeping Snorlax appearing in Pokemon Go to celebrate and ease the wait.
Pokemon Sleep is developed by Select Button, whose work you know if you played Pokemon: Magikarp Jump, while the Pokemon Plus + is seemingly developed in conjunction with Niantic.
CEO of The Pokemon Company Tsunekazu Ishihara said, "The concept of this game is for players to look forward to waking up every morning".
Nintendo said that Pokemon Sleep will collect "simple information about how long you sleep".
That said, we're still not exactly sure about specific mechanics of Pokemon Sleep, but we should be hearing more in the coming days.
Add to that Pokemon Home, a cloud service for Switch, iOS and Anroid devices that lets you "bring over the Pokemon that you've shared adventures with throughout your journey."
